Paul Burke
I tell stories with wood and paint. The characters in my sculptural narratives are animals - including the occasional human. Plots evolve through relationships and my vocabulary is lumber, branches and roots. Mood is created with gouges and paint.
Animals sense and respond to emotion in people: joy, love, need, sadness, fear. People recognize and respond to the emotions expressed in my sculptures: freedom, joy, calm, love, determination, mischief. Solitary wild and domestic animals, the bonds that join individuals, relationships of groups. The enduring link between animals and humans - each of these connections in my work naturally evolved naturally. As I developed my skills and characters, I realized that these threads illustrate the narrative of our interdependence as species, in ecosystems that weave our world together. address: 175 Northview Drive phone: 250 537 0754 email: bluehorse@saltspring.com website: www.bluehorse.ca |
